When Sylvia Beez of redesigned this 1970s ranch house, she combined a rustic-chic look with the California appeal of the area hosting this warm, welcoming, personality-filled home. The living room screams “rustic refined,” whereby each element that would typically be classified as “county” boasts a modern edge – the vaulted wood ceiling, painted white; the concrete floor, polished to a sleek sheen; and the stone fireplace, which takes shape a contemporary shape and becomes a modern focal point. A wall of windows floods the space with sunlight and garden views.
Like the homes finishes, the furnishings too are a blend of rustic and chic. Natural materials like wood and leather feature contemporary, sleek silhouettes without being “unusable.” These pieces are as inviting as any, and really beautiful to look at.
The home’s open concept layout leaves its eclectic collections on full display. Vibrant modern art and a painted armoire deliver that “ranch” factor. A terra cotta colored wall adds another pop of color to the space.
On the other side of the colored wall, is another personality altogether – a bright, modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances. steel and glass cabinets and a mini subway tile backsplash in various aqua and green tones.
A large square table sits between the kitchen and living area, overlooking the garden.
One wall along this passageway displays art, while the other features a textural pattern of waves washing over it and leading you organically along. Awesome.
Another sitting area is as cozy as they come, with a sweet sofa in a warm cognac leather, and a couple of classic Barcelona chairs upholstered in a cream leather. The large scale abstract art brings a pop of color to the tan walls.
Tucked into the large bay window, we love these exotic wood elephant chairs.
The feature wall is finished in a dual pattern – no artwork above the fireplace required!
The dining area is fresh in green, flooded with natural light and further illuminated by a stunning chandelier overhead. The heavy wood table invites you to sit and stay a while…
The rug brings a hunt of tradition to the space, complemented by thoughtfully displayed decor including a metal-adorned antique armoire, an umbrella holder, a book stand and gallery style photo collection.
The library is a dramatic, almost intimidating space – unless, of course, it is your own. The desk is an authoritative addition. The shelves are lined with books and a collection of wood masks and sculptures. An earthy orange rug spreads out beneath the brown-painted coffered ceiling.
A powder room with pow!
Bedrooms boast a bohemian style that is rich and romantic. We love the contrast of the rustic furniture, abundant patterns, and the contemporary style lighting.
This exotic bathroom has a decidedly earthy appeal, featuring textured stone tiles, pebbled backsplash and details, and the metal mirror frames hanging above the metal vessel sinks.
