It’s undeniable that concrete is popular, but when did it become so homey and even exquisite? You can find all kinds of decor accents and accessories made out of noble concrete on the market today. And this contemporary concrete lamp from is yet another example.
Reimagining their old design of Aplomb lamp for Foscarini, has turned in its Large but sleek version in three color options. Equipped with LED lights, the lamp is offered in dark and light as well as white.
Ultra thin and elegant, its incredibly modern silhouette would look great anywhere from kitchen to dining room. With such a long cord, it can also fit with double height ceilings, punctuating vertical architectural lines.
The shape of the pendant looks quite futuristic, but there isn’t any wackiness to it. And it will most definitely fit well into some minimalist interior. In fact, there is little left from the Aplomb’s original funnel shape, but that’s what makes this design look so elegant. Thinning out concrete must be quite a challenge, but it looks all the more impressive.
Although there is a certain charm about concrete grey, the white version looks especially stylish, while the light grey pendant contrasts nicely with the black hardware. Hang them alone or in groups, these pendants will look equally great in the appropriate setting. You’d probably want them to hang a bit low, too, as LED lights aren’t very bright.
It’s interesting to see where the designers can push such a familiar and utilitarian material as concrete. We’ve seen it in lighting, decor objects, vases, and even furniture. What do you think should be next?
