Concrete Architecture inspired by the sea

“House with Crest” will have lovers of contemporary style homes on a new high – this unusual concrete architecture in Kyoto, Japan definitely warrants a tour. This 2,796-sq.-ft., two-storey house / studio features reinforced concrete construction, which affords it such a distinctive, contemporary style. Of course, the creative thinking of Anna Nakamura and Taiyo Jinno (from architecture firm Eastern Design Office) doesn’t hurt either. A bold, solid exterior features circular, porthole-type windows lining the home’s facade, with a striking natural-wood door which leads residents into modern concrete and wood-clad interiors. The tall and slender hallways evoke a feeling of aged authenticity, almost Titanic-esque, if you will. Light becomes a key player in this modern house design. “A light that penetrates into the architecture always moves and never stays. It is a symbolic spectacle,” according to Eastern Design Office. “A light that goes through the hole is projected in a circle shape, moves unlimitedly, and never stays. Occasionally, it disappears, and it appears.” Eastern Design Office
