Austin, Texas-based architecture firm designed this rustic house right in their own backyard. Designed as an earthy sanctuary, this stone home design follows the lay of the sloped site with a layered layout both indoors and out. Regardless of where you are, the overall feeling you’ll get here is one of peace and serenity, achieved through the neutral materials, color palette and easy-going flow of living spaces.
Interiors are stepped, in line with the hillside property, boasting raised and sunken spaces that offer privacy without being closed off from the rest of the home. Taking a cue from the home’s exterior, stone interior walls and wood ceilings invite a bit of nature indoors.
As you ascend the stairs, great glass walls enhance the sense of space while framing endless views of the densely forested valley below.
Where walls are present inside, the architects used glazing to create some separation without closing in the space – we love the glass-enclosed bathroom! An open walk in shower, twin vanities and a soaker tub complete this spa inspired space. Imagine soaking your tired muscles in a steaming bath while looking out onto nature around you. It’s the next best thing to being outdoors!
The kitchen is a country culinary center, with stone walls and fireplace that instantly warm up the look and feel of this inviting space. The natural wood island/table ties in nicely with the rustic wood ceiling. The large windows flood the kitchen with soft sunlight while offering a glimpse of a striking outdoor fireplace feature that beckons on chilly evenings.
Outside, lovely landscaped outdoor entertaining areas and sheltered lounging spots incorporate stone to create a seamless transition from house to nature.
